Downunder, how many usb devices are attatched to your pc?Are you using a usb hub?Try disconnecting any external drives, webcam etc. then reconnect the gps.Try all your available usb ports.Have you been able to try connecting it to another pc? In device manager you said it shows the device as working properly. Can you check the file system and see what it shows you?Can you can now format it or not?I have uploaded a batch file for you to download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?dwdua2khiez .It is a batch file that will open up device manager with an extra function.First disconnect your GPS from the pc.Download the batch file then double left click on it.You will see a command prompt window then device manager will open up.When it does, click on View at the top of the device manager box then click on show hidden devices. Now click on disk drives. You will now see the drives that are connected to your pc and also any drives that used to be connected to your pc.The drives that are currently connected to your pc will have a dark symbol on the left of them. Any drives that are no longer connected will have a greyed out symbol next to them.On the drives that are no longer present, right click on them and then click uninstall.Click ok at the confirm device removal.Do that with all of them.Don't worry if you accidentally uninstall something that is still connected, windows will redetect/install when you start your pc.Now go down to non plug and play drivers and do the same. Now go down to other devices,do the same,go to storage volumes do the same.Next, universal serial bus controllers then windows portable devices and lastly wireless communication devices. Now restart your pc and when it finishes booting switch on your GPS and reconnect it to the pc.Go to my computer and have a look for your flash disk.Cross your fingers, say 3 hail Mary's then try and open it Cheers,Crowy. |

OK! One last shot if your willing! This is pretty much a variation of the reflash/update without formatting the flashdisk. Firstly, confirm that your memory card is just SD not HCSD. Reformat and check the memory card integrity following these instructions: http://www.navig8r.com.au/m35/navig8r_club/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1121 Extract your G35_OSRebuild.zip file that you downloaded to a new folder on your pc.Then copy the contents of that folder to your SD card using a card reader/writer NOT your GPS.When you have done that remove the memory card from the reader, reinsert the memory card into the gps but Don't switch it on yet!!.Make sure the GPS is set to off at the on/off switch located on the back. Connect the gps to the mains charger.Switch the charger on.Hold down the power button located on the top left hand side of the unit and keep holding it down. While still holding it down switch the unit on at the on/off switch located on the back of the unit and wait approximately 10 seconds. You will see an updating image dialogue box appear on the screen and the red power light will go out. That is normal. After about 23 minutes you will here a ringing sound and then a high/low sound. The power light will turn red and the dialogue box will say processing file 1 of 643.Wait another 10 minutes or so and you will see the Navigation / GPS Receiver / Travel Kit screen.Disconnect the usb charge cable from your gps and switch off the charger.Switch the GPS off and remove the SD card.Press reset on the back of the GPS.Wait for the Navigation / GPS Receiver / Travel Kit screen.Plug the GPS back into your PC. If this gets communication between your GPS and your PC....Great!!If not pour youself a scotch and contact support. Please post the fix here for future reference. Cheers,Crowy.

Macka/Downunder,Another last shot Download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?twuzknbd5iy It's a low level format utility that will hopefully restore communication between your pc and gps. Make sure your gps is connected to your pc.Install the low level format utility and run it.This screen will pop up.

Left click on central flash disk drive then click continue. You will see this screen:

You will notice the size of the drive is reported incorrectly because its not a IDE or SATA drive.Don't worry about that. Now click on LOW LEVEL FORMAT at the top of the dialogue box.A screen will pop up warning that ALL DATA WILL BE FULLY and IRREVERSIBLY ERASED!Thats good!Click on FORMAT THIS DEVICE in the bottom right corner of the dialogue box and at the next warning pop up box click on yes.You will see a progress bar as the operation progresses. On my pc it took about 30 minutes.Don't worry, everything I'm instructing you to do I have already done on my G35.When it completes, close the format utility,go to my computer and see if you can access your (now empty)flashdisk. If you can,try copying a music file or something to the flashdisk and see if you can play it.If all is good, delete the file you just copied to the flashdisk.Switch off the gps, insert your memory card and follow the instructions posted earlier to reinstall the operating system/updates to your gps. Cheers,Crowy |

Thanks crowy, I gave it a try and it picked up my hard drive but not the GPS. It seems a chat to admin is the next step. |

Hi
Admin has asked me to return the unit for repair/replacement.
The operator seemed to know what the problem was by the serial number.

Macka,I was starting to think the unit had issues. If support heard alarm bells when you mentioned the device id number, I'm curious to know if downunder has a faulty unit from the same batch? Downunder, have you contacted support? What was their response? I'm curious to know if this may be another faulty batch of G35's(remember the freezing/cricket chirp issues)or whether these are units from the same batch displaying different symptoms before they had the chance to start freezing/chirping. Cheers,Crowy. |

Crowy, Yes, I contacted support yesterday and told them about the problem. They asked for the id number and said to return it and they'd replace it with a new unit fully loaded with the latest update and active Speed Alert.
This wasn't a unit with the freezing/chirp problem but it was a replacement for the original which stopped operating in Navigator mode after an update. |
