Has anyone had issues with the G43 that are heat related causing the LCD screen to black out or flicker wildly?
I have an L43 - had it for 18 months or so and the maps are out of date so I need to either upgrade it to G43 or buy another brand. I'd like to stay with Laser as I have all the accessories for two cars, however if the G43 has the same issue with heat I will research other brands.
Mine lives on the dash, it never leaves the car. On really hot days here in Brisbane if it's been parked in the sun for an hour or so the LCD display goes completely blank - as the a/c cools the car down it'll gradually start to flicker, then starts to flash more slowly and eventually the screen is back to normal in about 15 mins (less if I dismiount it and point the a/c outlets onto it). The device continues to work fine in the background - it's just the screen that dies.
interested to hear if anyone else has similar issue with the new G43 unit.
Cheers

I have left my L43 in the car in direct sunlight on 35+ degree days and it has worked fine. Needless to say my eyes would flicker after getting into the hot car, but the GPS screen worked ok.
On the issue of your maps being out of date, I assume you are still running the original L series maps and software? If so it is possible to upgrade the L43 hardware to accept the newer M series software and maps which are still supported and have new map updates released regularly. This is what I have running currently. I can't remember the exact details on the upgrade, but I'm sure Club_Admin will fill in the blanks (or one of the other guys on here for that matter .) |

Generally PND GPS devices are fairly robust for temperature extremes however extreme heat will have an effect on any LCD based product (phone, MP3, camera, etc) so we would recommend removing the device from your dashboard if it's left there in direct sunlight in extreme heat. Having said that, our G43 models were not affected by the heat issue which affected a small number of G35 products back in July. (most of which have now beeen rectified).
