I have the G35, I installed the 2nd update, (June) and now that the registration is working, that offers me a much bigger d/l of the G35 map guarantee.exe file. Do I even need this one if I have the latest update? What's it for

If you have done the update via the map guarantee page, then you dont need the smaller (monthly free update).
The G35 map guarantee update (the bigger one) contains any new areas which may not have been on the device when you bought it. This may include new residential blocks in outer suburbs or new roads or zoned areas. The latest speed alert data is also uploaded.
In the public download area for free updates, this includes all updates for the map area you have already such as all new turn restrictions, POI updates, road changes, map and software fixes. It wont include the new suburbs.

So do the guarantee update first and then the latest monthly update? I presume given the size and time it takes to load these monthly updates, they are more of a complete re-issue of the mapping info than an addition to the previous month? So it wouldn't matter if you missed one, or 10, if you updated with the latest, you'd have all the latest road info, (but not necessarily the latest suburb info or speed zones).
I would also just like to comment on the excellent (and unexpected) service and communication from you guys, I hope you can keep it up, if so, I'm sure you will blitz the competition, there'd be no reason to go anywhere else, well done!!! |

Correct (and thanks from the support team for your comments).
although we recieve a lot of hits on our update file server every month you dont actually need to update EVERY month. If you leave it for say, 12 months and come back then you will get everything which was changed since your last update.
The important thing is that we dont post updates every month because something is wrong or missing. (it's not like a Windows service pack update). Most of the update content is changed road data. for example:
a street made into a one way, no right turns, speed alert area fixes, POI updates, tweaks to specific routing issues reported on map reporter and so on. |

hi
i just bought D35.it comes with map but lot of streets or let say address are missing.does that mean i have to buy map.and in update section there is no option for D series update it only displays G and m

You are still entitled to the free map guarantee.
Go to the Laser Navig8r web site. There you will see a link to the map guarantee. When the link opens it will ask you to register your D35. After the registration then it will open the free map guarantee.
You have to register your Navig8r with in 30 days to be entitled to the map guarantee.

PS,. Don't forget to backup your on board Flash Memory. Back it up to your HD.

| I am downloading the map update for my D35, but I am a Mac user. It's an .exe file, which cannot be opened on a Mac. Is there some alternative? |

I don't know if there is a windows simulator for Macs. |

Thanks Greg. I have sent the updater.exe file off with a friend to a PC (without the D35) - but I'm guessing the GPS shd be associated with said PC when it executes. Anyway, we'll see.
Thanks Crowy. I had a look at that, but it's all way above my non-programmer head. I'll wait and see if the club admin has a moment to say something about the Mac issue tomorrow.

Unfortunately MAC OS is currently not supported. We are looking into a conversion though.
As to the update process, the program is run in memory and doesnt install or reside within your PC so there are no associations or partnerships linking the GPS device to your PC. You can basically run the update software on any Windows PC and plug any GPS into it to update. |

I am as usual appalled that 1. Macs aren't supported and 2. it doesn't say so anywhere. But I'm very used to both of those conditions.
However, I am very grateful for your reply, club_admin, confirming what I expected. And I'll do as you suggest.

Hi,
I have just gotten my G35, and was wondering about the map guarantee issue. Once I register, I can download the latest map update.
From what I read, this is to include new areas.
However how do I know what is the latest version as compared to that already present in my unit? If they are the same version, will I be still entitled to the next map guarantee update when it becomes available? Or how does this map guarantee thing work? |

drifter-paul,The G35 software is slightly different to the M35.You need to go to the main map screen,not the main menu
stalker878,Go to the main map screen,select menu in the lower right corner,then select options then select about.You will see the software version(Latest is 65.2.1)
Data version 50(1 Apr 2010).
Also you can go to the main menu and select the travel kit option.Scroll down to about and have a look there.You will see another software version (which is actually the Firmware version)
The latest is 20090401.E v2.
If you don't have this you can do the full update at the update page(option 2B).This will give you the latest firmware and maps.Or if this is already your version you only need to do the map update (option 2A).

That is the firmware version I have, but how about the map version?
So the map guarantee is forever? or one new update? Or? What is my map version is already the one for the current map guarantee download?
