I installed Updater_Beta_I.exe tonight. When it finished there was some errors. I plugged in and did it again. The computer prompted to check the disk. I let it check the disk and fix the error. I went on to install it. When it finished and I tried. It came up with the error message the same as the subject of this post.
Then I installed the Updater_M35.exe. The problem remained.

I installed again and the problem seemed fixed.
I shall give it a test drive tomorrow or Monday.
I apology for all the fuss. |

| It's the 4GB SD card that came with the GPS. |

| Did you make up a back up copy of your card to the computer before you updated it. If not you will have to contact clubadmin or metroview support for them to rebuild your card. Sometimes people can get corrupted or missing files when downloading, so if you have a backup reformat your card, copy your backup to the sd card and download the update again and reinstall |

Just as a further confusing input. One of HC card readers is now not seeing the card at all and the other does sometimes but in an attempt to backup breaks down erratically in different files. Have tried 8 times now and got to 1min left and it stopped. I bought a new reader (axispoint) which doesn't work!!! either. The company support rivals that of Laser and a new one is in the mail as I type!!!!!! Maybe the world isn't coming to an end!!! Maybe the 2 companies ought to get together!!
But my point is, maybe SOME (how many I don't know) of the backup problems we are experiencing are due to the HCSD card readers???

Highly likely Greg, but why does not the navig8r software installation/upgrade program perform some form of integrity or checksum test on the files?

I didn't make a backup, not quite sure what to back up and how to bu simply copy. I believed the card was nearly full, so that would be nearly 4 gigs. The first time before I installed the beta for testing I simply dragged the whole lot over and it took ages. Eventually I gave up.
I did keep a copy of the original released file and of every beta I used though. I suppose the released file even the beta file would have everything needed. What I did was I kept installing the file again and again and eventually I got it working.
My card is a "Laser" card that came with the GPS when I bought it. I did use the card reader I bought a few times and there had not been any problem. |

healer, it sounds like a data corruption issue or an incomplete update. complete the RMA form here http://laserco.com.au/RMA/tac_eu.asp return just the SD card to us and we'll rebuild it wiht an update image.

to create a B/U just make a folder on your HDD and copy the card to it. It will take a while especially if you only have USB1 or you are using a USB1 port on your computer. But I wouldn't expect "ages" |

| Just a side comment, this topic should have probably been posted in the Beta forum as it was related to a corrupted install of a Beta update |

I do not think my computer is so old. I believe I have USB2 port.
I have supposed my GPS is working the best it could. I have guessed whatever problems I am experiencing are just program bugs and map data not fully updated. Well, no software program is perfect and no data is always updated. I never thought it would be data corruption.
Will somebody tell me whether an update consists of all the programs and data required? If it does and if I do a "chkdsk /f" or/and a format and then an update, wouldn't it fix all the data corruption? By the way what file system is the format of the disc, fat32 etc?
I am trying to avoid sending it back for warranty unless I am sure it is faulty. I would miss it and also if they find nothing wrong I might incur a service fee.

| No, the original problem had nothing to do with the beta file per se. I believed it was just a general problem of data corruption or my ignorance in executing the update procedure. It just so happened I did a beta update. |

Chdsk is not a miracle worker. It cannot fix what isn't there. It has limited correction abilities. and if you do a format you will need to load your backup otherwise the updater will not recognise your card.
If admin has offered a rebuild I would take them up on it. They will not spring any unexpected charges on you. They are somewhat different to other manufacturers you will find out and as Craig says, this is the wrong thread. If you are a beta tester please keep beta matters on that thread. It is likely to confuse the general public who may use the forum. |

Hi
I sent my laser disc by post for image-rebuild some days ago as suggested by the admin. The destination address was only some suburbs away from where I sent.
When I did a RMA tracking just now, it said it hadn't received it.
Is there a phone number I can phone up to get more details? |
