(It is and formatted using program suggested on this site)
-The device is turned on.
(Device is not turned on or attached - just the SD card in Reader)

There is no firmware update for the D35.
The firmware update is for the G35 only.

Punkah1,You haven,t formatted the actual unit have you
As Grumpy said the firmware update is for the G35.The map guarantee updates don't require you to format anything. If you have erased(formatted)your flash disk(the actual unit not the sd card in the slot)you will need to send support a very polite emailHowever if you have'nt erased the onboard memory ,go here http://www.navig8r.com.au/Registration/registration.aspx
register your unit, and you will be able to download the latest maps for free.
Cheers,Crowy.

If you have formatted the flash drive.
Then you should be able to use the recovery tool.
The link to the recovery tool is at the top of the D & G series forum.

Grumpy, the link for the G35 recovery and G35 restore no longer works.
This was only for the G series anyway
I'm guessing it has been removed since the new firmware/update has been available for the G35.
Cheers,Crowy.

I purchased a new 4 Gig SDHC card and formatted that before using, as I do for all cards and USB sticks. I ensure thaat they are clean when I use them. NOTE: THE UNIT WAS NOT FORMATTED . The D35 was issued in Dec 09 and according to the web site the latest firmware is the same as G35. Instruction on the packaging state *Log into www.navig8r.com.au within 60 days of purchase to get latest map upgrade. Follow instruction registered and downloaded the relevant update. Which as stated would not work. What now??????? I have a download that will not execute onto my new SD card.

I am not familiar with the D unit so take this as guess only. The latest O/S update for the G model was stressed not to use a HCSD card just an SD card. Do you have one you can transfer the data to?

Punkah1.

If this is what you are talking about.
Then this not a firmware update. It is a map update.
This is all you can get for the D35.
You cannot down load it to a clean/ formatted card as the update will be looking for the Mobilenavigator folder in your flash memory to get your ID number of your Navig8r.

Back up your flash memory from the Navig8r to your HD/folder.
This is a safe guard against you corrupting your flash drive.

After you have done that, then you can down load the guarantee map update straight to your on board flash memory

This is the only map update you will be able to get for the D35 at this time.

There is not firmware update for the D35 as the OS system in it is very robust/stable.

Punkah1,please let us know the exact name of the file you downloaded.
You don't need a sd card to update maps. The update transfers from pc straight to your onboard flash memory.
Cheers,Crowy.

are you sure about that? just had a look at the update page and it recommends a 4Gb SD card being available. The "detailed instructions" available prior to download aren't exactly detailed.

Greg,

The 4GB card they are talking about is :-
The card we have in the M series with cadasteral ( how ever its spelt.)
ganaf??. In other words it has the land blocks and house numbers and latest maps. Cost $59.00. Size of program about 3.6GBs.
That's why it comes on a 4GB card.

The D35 has a 2GB on board Flash memory.

Thank you I am well aware of that however there is a major difference between HC and non HC cards and it is this to which I was referring.

Punkah1,can you please show us where it says the G35 firmware update is also suited to the D35?

This is what you downloaded, the latest map update(not the firmware. As Grumpy said there is no need to update the firmware it works just fine). You should see this:

First, take out the memory card from the unit for now(as I said this isn't neccessary for the map update).Connect the unit to your pc and wait until windows sees the GPS.Again as Grumpy said, before you do anything, make a backup of your Mobilenavigator folder to your hard drive first. When you have done that, double left click on your updater icon and follow the steps to update to the latest maps. When that finishes disconnect the gps from your pc and you should be good to go.
Cheers,Crowy.

Thank You to the members of this forum, who assisted with my problem. My daughter got it going for me. Fixing faults in computers is easy compared to having GPS problems. It must be Old Timers disease setting in.
