Hello all,
Has anyone experienced this problem please? When I connect my G35 to any windows based PC, using the supplied USB cable, the GPS "toggles" between USB mode & normal operation mode. This happens constantly, about every 20 seconds. When I go into device manager, I notice that the device database keeps on re-setting at the same 20 second period speed. If I try & load the new map software (downloaded after registering at the Navig8r site), it cannot find the USB device. I've tried two different PC's. The unit is fully charged. I've also tried numerous cables. Many thanks (in anticipation) - Dave Stewart

Hi Dave ..
It could be that the PC is trying to connect to it using "Active Sync".
I use an M35 so only ever connect the USB these days for charging and reload/upgrade the software using the Card Reader but have noticed that the PC keeps looking for the Navig8r as you describe when its connected.
Someone with a G series may be able to give you extra information ..?
Once you get it connected .. make sure you backup the Navig8r software BEFORE you do any form of upgrade attempt.

Cheers ..

| The "USB Disk Mode" keeps appearing - and disapperaing on the GPS screen. I don't think I have any "active sync" happening, though to be honest I'm a mac man and so who knows what the thing is doing ;) |

| I just made sure that "active sync" was turned off and so that isn't the issue. There's definitely a fundamental USB - computer issue here as the computer keeps on re-discovering the USB every 20 seconds & then the "USB DISK MODE" screen appears on the GPS (for about 5 seconds) and then disappears again. Maybe it's simply a faulty GPS unit? It's odd that everything else works though ;) |

| The unit is now locking up in a number of different menu's, mainly just after the GPS has locked onto the 3rd successful satellite & also when entering a route to a destination when the unit hasn't locked into position. The unit will not attach to any USB port on any computer (I've tried 5 different ones) and in fact, on an IBM thinkpad, it try's to install its self as a bluetooth device - but fails. I'll just RMA it I think. |

I'm experiencing the same (or very similar) problem connecting my G43 to my desktop computer as Dave described ...
When I connect the usb cable then switch the gps on, I see the blue Laser logo, then hear the "jangle" noise, then the blue "USB Disk Mode" screen appears on the gps and I hear a short "bong-bong-bong" sound from my computer then about 10 seconds later the Main menu appears on the gps and I hear a "bing-bong" sound from the computer, then a couple of seconds later the cyle repeats - the blue "USB Disk Mode" screen, the bong-bong-bong sound, the menu screen and the bing-bong sound, and then the cycle repeats again (and does so endlessly). Nothing ever appears in "My Computer" or in the list of USB devices.
Fortunately (although strangely) the gps does connect to my laptop and usb communication works fine between them.
But, I'd really like to get my desktop to do likewise. And as Dave has had similar problems, it seems there may be a broader issue than just a problem with my pc. |

I have a G35 and when I update I follow this procedure; Open the download section and make sure the USB cable is connected to the computer first, after "resetting" the G35 and the "3" panels are showing, connect the USB cable then hit the update message in the download section. I then sit back and let it all happen. I updated this afternoon and it all worked fine. I have no need to touch the G35 whilst this happens. Hope this might help. |

I'm running XP Home on both the Desktop and Laptop. And it doesn't matter whether I plug the usb cable into the gps when it's running, or when it's switched off. As soon as it recognises the usb is connected the cycle starts. (And it doesn't matter whether I'm running in G mode in inbuilt memory, or I-Beta from SD Card.)

| I run XP on my laptop and I can still do updates without a problem. I guess I am fortunate that I can use either machine. Just a further thought..I have NEVER used the cable that was supplied with the G35, instead I use one that is permanently in the computer for downloading from my Sony camera. Maybe it is the cable that is causing the problem. Suggest you consider buying a new cable and try that. |

Try rebooting in safe mode.If that works, there is a driver conflict with your desktop pc. Cheers,Crowy. |

An update.
It was my Thinkpad T42p that was causing the hassles. Also my neighbours PS didn't correctly "find" the new USB device. I brought one of the laptops from the LAB I work in & everything is fine now.

I have a similar problem with my G35. After the operating system update(of the G35 to version "E") windows (7) does not recognize the G35 as a usb device when i plug the SD card into the G35 windows see's that. ??????? I managed to do a map update on the SD card as well as speed alert, and it works but i am a bit worried that windows will/does not see the G35. I tried on another PC with XP and same thing. Does anyone have any ideas for a fix? |
