We are pleased to announce a partnership with POIDB.COM. (www.poidb.com)
With more than 250,000 qualified Points of Interest in Australia, POIDB.COM is unique in offering up to date, user verified and user submitted POI content.
IN addition to standard POI sets such as parking and petrol stations, ATM's, etc POIDB has many other unique POI sets such as popular tourist attractions, favourite pie shops, vetinarians, and public toilets to name a few.
Users are also able to contribute to the POIDB.COM data set with their own suggestions all of which are updated to the navig8r free updates every month.
Currently in beta testing, POIDB POI's will be available in the December 2009 free update.

| Good to hear. I will now wait to see the POI data set before I continue downloading my own POIs. Being able to contribute to POIs is a bonus. |

Excellent News!!!
It's an early Christmas for sure this year.
I was saying to myself privately before why don't Navig8r and Poidb get together, as both are two great Aussie ventures, but I thought it was not politically correct because of the arrangement with StartLocal at the time. Now its a done deal.
I have been using POIDB before to add to Startlocal dismal POIs. Now the hard yakka will be done for me, so I can better enjoy my leisure time.
Has there been any decision on the actual format, keeping OV2 or some other format.

| Would the POI include tourist information centres as I feel that this is a very important interest to know as the tourist info service are able to give people a brochure and maps of the districts interest points, accommodation, sights to see etc |

Hi Trevncarm, that happened to be one of my customised POIs I added before from poidb, namely Tourist_Information_Centres.OV2 to category RECREATION.
Hopefully this will now be conveniently done on each update.
I hope besides "National_Parks", they will also add "Recreational_Parks" to the RECREATION Category.

| Thanks PaulGPS it will be great to see tourist info centres as a POI. Which site did you go to for the Ov2? Is it the www.poidb.com site? If so how do I update the Navig8r. Does anyone know when the Nov update will be up that has the POI |

That's correct Trevncarm.
You go to poidb.com, download and select TomTom ov2 format.
I also captured the Icon in bmp format, so you need 2 files, ov2 and bmp, then copy both files to the \poi\category folder and voila!
Hopefully we don't have to worry about this anymore.
I eagerly await the November update to see what the actual format of the POIs will now be. |

Hi All,
I thought I would pop into the forums.
I am excited with this partnership. I have a strong passion in geospacial technologies, communities and travel. It just makes perfect sense that two Australian ventures work together to create something that is ideal for the Australin market.
Currently I am in the process of re-developing the poidb.com website. This has taken considerable time as I have pretty well thrown out the old site and started from scratch. I plan to have it released on the 1 December 2009. Dont worry the information and the functionally in the old site will be in the new but there are a lot of new features including the ease in creating and updating the existing POI.
I am more than happy to respond to any questions, feedback etc that you may have.
Thanks
Mark poidb.com

| This is good news. Does this also apply to the speed camera data, or does this come from somewhere else? |

| Current Speed Camera data is fairly robust at the moment (although not yet configured for directional travel). New camera data will be implemented from POIDB dataset as well as our own, so it will be unique in terms of verification. |

| That's good to know. There have been 4 new fixed speedcams deployed in Queensland recently, two on the Gold Coast and two out Ipswich way. I know that one is on the Warrego Hwy inbound between the Pine Mountain overpass and the Kholo Road overpass. The others I am not sure as I can't find any info on them at all. |

I'm certainly looking forward to the new partnership, and and comforted that it seems the POI database will be under constant scrutiny.
Anything that improves on the current set can only be good.
Any word on what the "as provided" set will include? I have noticed that POIDB doesn't seem to have a list of hospitals, which to me would be a vital set to have (the ones provided by StartLocal use down right confusing names...). |

Some time after the first of December. When pict has the POIs finished. I don't think Admin and pict have set a date yet. There are to many things still up in the air, That is how I see it.

We are currently working on building up these categories in POIDB which will then flow back to the GPS.
Thanks Mark |

POI has not been entered for hospitals and medical services in the South Burnett (however it is there in the POI website, I suppose this is a work in progress adding it to the Nav update).
I would like to thank Mark for his hard work in developing the POI for the Nav |
