I originally had a faulty unit with a registered Speedalaert which I sent in for repairs .. I recieved a new unit (new device ID) with registered Speedalert (but not the latest firmware - no compass).
So I loaded up the new firmware with maps on my new unit .. no problems there, the upgrade process did what it said on the tin.
However I found out that the Speedalaert went back to being the trial version. I'm pretty sure that the Speedalaert registration is tied to the device ID and since my registration code was for the old unit I'm guessing I can't use my downloaded Speedalaert update with registration code on my replacement unit.
I did however make a backup of the filesystem of the G35 before I did the firmware update so I was wondering if there is a file from my backup that I can transfer to the G35 to bring back my registered version of Speedalert?
I'm also wondering if the files I copied from the G35 are just the maps and Speedalert data and the firmware is in a hidden partition of the G35 ?

The unique problem I have is that my unit was repalced with a new one so the "those who purchsed can use their original purchase code" probably won't work for me as the device ID has changed since I purchased the speedalert.
Anyway .. I decided to copy the contents of the "speedalert" directory (from the backup I made of the filesystem before I updated) onto the flash memory of the G35 - I figured I couldn't break it since I had a firmware upgrade SD card now.
That did the trick, even though the files were all the same size it reverted back to the registered speedalert that I had before (both my registered speedalert and the upgrade were the same version too).
Now to find a vector based WinCE mapping program that I can import Mapinfo files from to use on this unit :-)
