The Metroview updates page suggests there was a 4 Jan 2010 G43 Software & Map update. But as advised above [19 Feb post], I can't get the update link to work.
When I restored to my backup I revert to 1 Sep 2009 data, which is a while ago (no Gateway Mwy deviation/Brisbane Airport changes, no Bunbury Hwy, etc.).Hope someone can assist.
Go here... http://www.metroview.com.au/updates/updates.htm# Click on G43 then scroll down. And Bob's your Aunty!!!
Cheers,Crowy.

With great frustration, this is NOT happening:......make sure the unit is off at the slide switch first."Then press and hold the power button on the top of the GPS. With the Power button still held, slide the power switch on the back of the device to the On position.Continue holding the Power button down for approx 10 seconds or until the display lights and a status bar is shown". Can anyone offer any further suggestions I even spoke with Jeff Chong from Laser H/O today and he sent me a picture grab of what the info on the SD card should look like and it all coincides so why won't my unit update |

You don't put the card in until you have finished item 1. Connect G35 to AC adaptor and slide the power switch on the rear of the GPS to the OFF position.
Then you put the card in. You might be putting the card in first. Insert the SD card into the slot on the side of the GPS
***( Make sure the lock on the card is off. The back of the card is facing the front. Also you seat the card all the way in till it locks to the front of the Navig8r. This is just a reminder. You probably know this. )***

Thanks crowy, I've now successfully updated maps (& some other features) on my G43.
Someone seems to have 'silently' fixed the Metroview updates page recently though, 'cause I swear I tried this a couple of times over last few days and not only has the Software & Map Updates Released date changed [from 4 Jan 2010 to 22 Jan 2010] but the Download link has been fixed to now point to http://www.metroview.com.au/updates/Updater_G.exe
[It was a broken link pointing to http://www.metroview.com.au/updates/Updater_G_1.exe ]
Anyway, it now works, though my G43 display looks rather different.
The font size used to display menu labels & text lists on some screens (eg Navigation Waypoints & GPS raw data) is much bigger. This is particularly noticeable on the Navigation/Address Enter City/Town (keyboard) screen. The matching address prompt field below the main data entry field is now partly covered by the keyboard graphics.
Is this larger font size a new design feature?
Otherwise, the map updates look fine. The map N point (compass feature) is useful, as is ability to more easily navigate routes 'Via' waypoints. Some other subtle changes to the GUI also noticed. Still testing it out, though.

Martin Willis,.
The link might have been down on purpose while they finished the update.
The Via is very handy if you want to go Via a certain street. ( A different way than the Nav wants to take you.)
The larger Font was put in for us older/senior users whose eye sight is not what it was.

GUESS WHAT .....success at last I have successfully completed the firmware and map upgrade. I ended up having to do 3 SD card formats and downloads before it was successful. Even the missing streets I reported are in the new maps. I am glad we do not have to do this on a regular basis. I am now having a problem which I will report in the Beta Test forum. |

| One other point, the compass is missing after the upgrade and I thought this was an additional feature? |

The compass only shows when you are in map or trip mode. Go to look and feel and make sure it has a tick on it. If no tick then tick it.

As for the font size increase, seems to me it works well on Buttons and Menus but less well for address lists or text boxes. The new version displays too little information in the available screen area. Could this be improved by leaving the bolder stroke fonts but reducing the interline spacing? The most pointed example of this is with the Address entry screen.
The Via feature is an improvement - or addition - to Deliveries (was Waypoints) feature - which I already used as a crude way of forcing a particular route. But the GUI steps required seem very convoluted. You have to confirm the original Destination and then each additional Via address twice, before finally activating the Route calculation.
Another plea: would it be possible to keep the position & appearance of Menu buttons (e.g. Favourites, Recent) consistent across the various screens? Very confusing when trying to do fast data entry in the vehicle.
Also, the Via screen's Actions & Add buttons take you to Waypoint Actions and Add Waypoint screens. Perhaps some naming consistency?
Otherwise, an overall improvement. Anyone know whether this Rev (27 Jan) includes Lane Guidance on G43? |

Martin Willis,.
Does the G43 have 2 views. Classic and modern. If so try the modern view.

Grumpy,
Do these Classic and Modern views also apply to the G35.
If so, were are they situated. Or, does lane guidance just show up automatically when on a multi lane Freeway/Highway say.
Thanks mate.

If the G43 has it the G35 will have it. I don't know if they have it as I am using the Beta Program.
Go to look and feel and if there is a more or menu button in the right bottom of screen and press that and see what comes up.
Lane assist I think that only works in Capital cities. I stand to be corrected on both subjects by those using the G series.

Grumpy,
Thanks for your very prompt reply.
Well, no sign of Classic or Modern in Look and Feel or any reference to Lane Guidance anywhere. I do have the compass though and maybe you are right in that Lane Guidance only works in Capital cities.
I am about 100 clicks from Adelaide and about 70 from the South Eastern Freeway, so won't be able to check the unit out until I go up there in a weeks time.
Thanks again.
